Enhanced Fitness is an exercise program that has been developed to help older adults at all levels of fitness to become more active, energized, and empowered to sustain independent lives. This class focuses on dynamic activity including stretching, flexibility activity, low-impact aerobics, and muscle strengthening exercise - everything health professionals say older adults need to maintain health and function as they age.
This program was developed in the Seattle area in 1993 by trained exercise professionals and researchers. They wanted to develop a program to help older adults become and remain more physically active. They also wanted the program to be safe, inexpensive, and accessible to as many people as possible.
The instructors for this program have been carefully trained to understand the needs of active older adults - both men and women.

Frequently Asked Questions:Are participants required to purchase any special equipment or supplies?
* No, people are asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes designed for physical activity.
* Instructors/sites will have all equipment that is needed.
Do participants have to be active before they join the class?
* Enhance Fitness classes have been carefully designed to offer a safe and enjoyable experience for older adults of all fitness leves including those who may walk with an assistive device such as a cane or walker.
* The instructor will provide simple self-assessments that will allow participants to gauge wether they can immediately join the program or should consult with their physician or health care provider first.
What types of activites does an average program contain?
* A 5-minute warm-up to get blood flowing to the muscles.
* A 20-minute cardiovascular workout (seated or standing) to music.
* A 5-minute cool down to get the heart rate back to near resting level.
* A 20-minute strength workout with soft ankle and wrist weights (amount depends on ability and time in class).
* 10-minutes of flexibilty, balance, and stretching exercises.
* Lots of opportunites to have fun and meet new people!
What time and what days of the week will classes be held?* Classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 AM to NOON.
What does it cost to join the Enhance Fitness Class?
* UCare Minnesota Members can atten the class at no cost.
* Hallett Center members pay $30.00 for the 10 week session (30 classes).
* Non-Members pay $60.00 for the 10 week session (30 classes). |
